AMH – First private hospital in Bahrain to win CAP Accreditation
The American Mission Hospital has become the first private hospital in Bahrain to achieve the CAP accreditation for its Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.
It is now second in the country, after King Hamad University Hospital, to win this prestigious accreditation which is given only when stringent quality standards, set by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), are met.
“The CAP accreditation is coveted by medical labs across the world, because it gives global recognition of the high-quality standards employed in their operations, and also of the continuous improvements made in the systems. We are therefore proud that our hospital lab systems went through CAP’s rigorous assessments before getting this accreditation”, said Dr George Cheriyan, the Corporate CEO of American Mission Hospital.
Appreciating the Department Head Dr. Sixto Elmar Villena and the Lab Manager Ms. Zakiya Al Hamawi, the Group CEO Ms. Julia Tovey said: “Our hospital, and especially our pathology department head, manager and the lab team, have always ensured that the equipment we use, the tests we conduct, and the reports we produce, through all our processes meet global standards. It is really a very fulfilling moment for all of us”.
The CAP accreditation program follows a peer inspection model, combined with annual checklist updates and year-round education, strengthens each laboratory’s ability to deliver high-quality service that ensures the best patient care possible.

(His Excellency Mr Roderick Drummond, the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Bahrain, with the AMH Staff trained to conduct Soza Health Assessments)
The American Mission Hospital (AMH) has partnered up with Soza Health UK and Dhu3, Bahrain, to conduct health assessments in Bahrain.
Under the theme ‘Wellness in the workplace’ – Protecting your employees’ it has launched the SOZA Health ‘pilot’ assessment program in which, companies can book appointments to conduct Soza Health assessments for their staff.
Trained AMH staff will visit the companies and conduct these assessments, through the scheduling of AMH and Dhu3, the local partner in Bahrain.
It takes less than an hour for each staff member’s Soza assessment, which provides immediate information on where each member stands on the health and wellness spectrum. A customized and confidential report, with suggestions for actionable steps toward better health, is then provided to each employee at the end of their assessment.
“At AMH, we now focus more on wellness initiatives because illness treatments can be avoided with healthy lifestyles. With organizations like Soza Health, which base their testing systems and algorithms on excellent medical research, we can show a health report card to customers so that they can take appropriate corrective steps in nutrition and fitness. And these remedial lifestyles could even result in greater immunization against illnesses”, said Dr. George Cheriyan, the Corporate CEO of AMH.
“With 90 data readings taken in just over 35 minutes, and loaded into Soza’s secure cloud system, each customer would know how his or her body is performing from the health rating they receive”, said Tim King, the CEO of SOZA Health UK, during his visit to Bahrain in the last week of October.
“This pilot program will be run until the end of December 2020, through AMH and Dhu3”, said Paul Groom, the director of Dhu3, a Bahrain based company delivering digital and tech solutions to the GCC market.
Interested companies can contact Renjith Thomas, the head of Corporate Medical Insurance for discussions on how this Programme can benefit the employers, employees and insurance companies.
Key inputs into the Soza Health Assessment Programme have materialized from extensive research at Loughborough University, which is ranked number one on QS World University Rankings, for sports-related subjects, for the third consecutive year.
The companies in Bahrain which have already signed up for these assessments are:
◼ InTouch – the first clinic

American Mission Hospital launches Telemedicine for Reaching Communities
PRESS RELEASE
American Mission Hospital (AMH) announces its Telemedicine service for all who seek care.
Resilience is the ability to absorb the shock and disruption to what is normal. We are on the brink of a “new normal” that will “witness a dramatic restructuring of the economic and social order in which business and society have traditionally operated”. As a healthcare organization we are in the frontline of this storm and will continue to play an important role in shaping the post COVID recovery.
We are all rethinking how we deliver healthcare, based on lessons learned in these last few months with COVID-19 pandemic. Like many healthcare organizations, AMH turned to Telemedicine to extend care and meet community needs during this time of physical distancing. We realize that Telemedicine is the need of the hour especially when the world is facing unprecedented challenges with the coronavirus pandemic.
The main features of Telemedicine is allowing the patient to connect with AMH and book virtual consultations with our Doctors. To allow patients to keep a complete digital record of their health on the application and to allow patients to upload any medical records they think are relevant and want to discuss with the doctor. Patients are able to obtain valid medical E-Prescriptions after their appointment is over, which they can use at AMH pharmacy to obtain medicines.
As the COVID-19 contributing higher fatalities among immunocompromised people like chronic diseases and comorbidities, it can be used to avoid virus exposure by the means of reducing hospital visits. In addition to, it can reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission among health care professionals those working tirelessly in the frontlines by keeping all the significant infected patients out of hospital. Telemedicine can be used to triage more patients, screen and diagnose remotely. According to Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA), it also supports cost effective care by keeping patients to unlikely visit to emergency department and face to face consultations.
Throughout our history AMH has overcome and adapted to the various challenges of pandemics and economic downturns. Favorable job attitudes have a strong relationship to organizational outcomes in bad economic times than they do in normal or good times. External threats also provide us with opportunities of being innovative in how we deliver care and we have come to appreciate what a valuable tool Telemedicine is for reaching communities.
Please stay healthy and safe as we collectively fight this pandemic alongside our Public health officials and health workers who are directly involved in caring for sick COVID patients.
